How does this filter work?

The filter mainly consists of a tank in which is housed a rotating drum: this drum is coated with a 120 micron filter membrane on its periphery.

Dirty water from the basin is directed inside the drum and, to leave this filter, the water must pass through the filter membrane.

The pond water, which is freed from particles, comes out of the drum and is directed towards the biological part of this combi.

As the dirty water passes through the drum, the particles settle, blocking the small holes in the membrane, which gradually clogs.

The passage of water is slowed down, which causes a difference in level between the downstream and the upstream of the sieve.

At this time, the detection system starts a drum cleaning cycle. From this moment, the drum rotates very slowly and the nozzles arranged on the upper part (external side of the drum) project jets of water on the filtering membrane: under the pressure of the water, the smallest dirt is expelled from the filter membrane.

This dirt is collected in a gutter and directed to the sewer. The upstream/downstream water level is restored until the next cycle.

This cleaning is of the minimalist type: it only occurs when necessary and the drum only rotates once.

Benefits

The drum filter, which is a mechanical filter, has already been used for twenty years in our pools. On the other hand, the principle of a rotating biological filter which comes from the professional environment (aquaculture, waste water treatment, etc.) is new in our field.

This new rotating biological filter can treat 5 times more waste by bacteria compared to moving bed filters. The air contains 21% oxygen, which is why the bacteria offer better performance never equaled by submerged filters!
